Resource Coordinator Curriculum

Ms. Cecile Chandler

As a Resource Coordinator, Ms. Chandler’s main area of concern is the children with learning challenges, helping all children succeed at St. A. She coordinates communication with teachers, parents and these students. When a child is experiencing difficulties in the classroom, Ms. Chandler is consulted by the teachers involved. At that time, parents are contacted for a meeting with all the personnel involved with that child. If an evaluation is necessary, steps are taken to begin that process. Also, some strategies are put in place to assist with the learning issues until recommendations are made by an educational psychologist. The document that is set up is called a Strategy Plan. Home and school communication is very important and must be frequent for the child to be a success.

Following the evaluation, if it is deemed necessary, a 504 Plan may be devised with school, student and family each playing a very necessary part in the educational process. The Plan is a formal agreement that is discussed and signed by the student, teachers, and parents. Any party can challenge the others when the agreement is not being met. The plan is discussed at each PTS conference, making changes as necessary. Each spring, the plan is formally evaluated with all parties present and changes made for the following school year. Ms. Chandler keeps in contact with the parents and teachers to ensure that the plan is being implemented and success is realized.

The Earobics Program is managed by Ms. Chandler. It is a computerized literacy program that students in grade K - 5 may participate in for 60 minutes a week during the school day. It teaches phonological skills, a basic that is needed for reading success.

The gifted students in grades 5-8 may participate in a program with St. Bernard and St. Rita Schools called Better Education for Today’s Students (BETS). It is also coordinated by Ms. Chandler. More opportunities are being researched at this time.
